In the vibrant tapestry of Mooney High School's alumni, a group of twelve remarkable individuals emerged as catalysts for change in 2016. Led by class of 93 Alum Cheryl Cooper, these driven alumni recognized a stark disparity: despite comprising 40%-50% of the student body, the faces of color at CMHS were seldom the ones receiving custom support, scholarships, or recognition.
Determined to rectify this inequity, they united to form the CMHS Minority Alumni Council. With a mission deeply rooted in equity and inclusivity, their goal was clear: to nurture a thriving and supportive community for minority students at CMHS. They pledged to provide scholarships, guidance, and invaluable networking opportunities, enriching the academic, personal, and professional journeys of the young minds they aimed to uplift.
Their commitment extended beyond the hallowed halls of CMHS.The Council resolved to foster positive relationships within the school, promote cultural sensitivity, and instill a sense of social responsibility in the broader community. Through collective efforts, they envisioned a brighter, more equitable Mooney experience for all minority students—an enduring legacy of empowerment and transformation.
